WLB - Work-Life Balance
2024.09.18Work-life balance is the pursuit of a harmonious arrangement of professional commitments and personal life, including time for hobbies, relaxation, and connecting with loved ones. Achieving work-life balance involves more than just evenly splitting time between your career and personal pursuits—it's about creating an environment where both aspects can coexist without conflict or stress.
Maintaining a work-life balance ensures that work does not consume all your time and energy, allowing space for personal interests, relaxation, and self-care. Essentially, it's about achieving a healthy distribution of priorities between work and personal life.
In today's world, which is full of career opportunities, shifting our focus towards personal life can be difficult. Issues like professional burnout, challenges in communicating with colleagues, insufficient time for family and oneself, loss of energy, insomnia, or excessive sleepiness are far more common.
So, we've established what work-life balance entails, but what problems arise from disrupting this balance?
The following issues may arise when the balance tips too heavily towards work:
Burnout and deteriorating health: excessive commitment to work, without adequate rest or time for personal interests, can result in burnout, stress, fatigue, and compromised physical and emotional health.
Deterioration of relationships: neglecting time for family, friends, and loved ones can lead to relationship conflicts and a decline in the quality of personal life.
Soft skills decline: constant stress, apathy, and tension can make it harder to manage your emotions, remain attentive to colleagues, and be an effective team player.
Decreased creativity and motivation: continuous work without breaks or rest can result in a decline in creativity, a drop in work quality, and a decrease in motivation and passion for work.
Depression: the inability to vary activities and the lack of time for personal life can gradually erode one's emotional well-being, potentially leading to serious psychological consequences.
If a company fails to provide space for its employees to find a work-life balance, it may face increased layoffs and turnover, adversely affecting its stability and productivity.
How the company can help:
At Boolat Play, our greatest asset is our employees.
That's why we take the following steps to support their WLB:
Process Transparency
By ensuring we have clear processes and communication, every team member understands their tasks, the time allotted for them, and the expected outcomes, enabling more efficient allocation of time and resources. This approach helps prevent stress and overwork.
Health Insurance
We ensure our employees' salaries are protected while insurance partners handle all the details around the illness, including medication and doctor visits. This arrangement allows employees to prioritize their health without fearing the loss of income, ensuring they don't have to work through illness.
We also offer insurance for employees' children, alleviating concerns about the financial implications of a child's illness.
Psychological Support
Resolving conflicts, solving problems, preventing burnout, and achieving goals. Everyone faces these common challenges, and a professional psychologist can provide the necessary support to address them effectively.
Flexible Work Schedule
We're committed to teamwork. That means that during designated team hours, employees are expected to be available and ready to engage. Team hours are from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM Kyiv time.
Employees can set their own work hours, take breaks during the workday, request postponements, and generally work at times that suit them best.
Remote Work
All our employees have the option to work from home, in the office, or in a hybrid format, where they visit the office a few days a week and work from home the remaining days. This approach reduces the stress and fatigue associated with daily commuting, freeing up time that would otherwise be spent on the road and allowing for a better balance between work, family, social life, and hobbies.
Office Catering
In our office, we provide employees with not only a variety of snacks and beverages but also three full meals a day. Employees can pre-select meals using a special app, saving personal time that would otherwise be spent on cooking and allowing for more leisure time with family and friends and other activities.
Physical Activity
We understand the importance of dedicating time to physical activity, especially when spending the entire day at the computer. That's why we offer compensation for sports activities for all employees. Additionally, we offer stretching and yoga classes for those who visit the office.
To Sum Up
WLB facilitates a lifestyle where individuals have sufficient energy and time for their professional responsibilities and personal pursuits. Essentially, this stands in contrast to a culture of constant hustle, which often stigmatizes rest as something shameful.
Allocate time for your personal life while staying on top of your work tasks, and you'll become the kind of employee who avoids accumulating stress and fatigue, finds joy in their work, and enjoys a life filled with exciting plans and achievements.
